KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and a key leader of the Oli-led faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Ishwar Pokharel has said that their faction is the authorized group to get the election symbol ‘Sun’.  “The KP Oli-led group is sure to be recognized as the official NCP,” he said.

Leader Pokhaerl argued that the election announced for April and May later this year for a fresh mandate is a historic declaration by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. “People are the supreme judiciary. Therefore, the PM has decided to go for polls.”

Addressing a mass gathering organized by the faction in Kathmandu on Thursday, Pokharel said that the Dahal-Nepal ‘coalition’ led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal is a group of those “who wish for others’ death and see their life at others’ end.”

On the occasion, he also committed that they will collectively face all sorts of adversities which have been floating in Nepali politics of late. “We’ll safeguard the sovereignty and independence of the country.”

“Dahal-Nepal is the major obstacle to economic development and prosperity in the country,” he said, adding that threatening the Election Commission by the rival faction [Dahal-Nepal group] is a condemnable act.

On the occasion, Pokharel tagged Dahal and Nepal as ‘opportunists’ who are responsible for instability and anarchy in the country.

Following the dissolution of the lower house – the House of Representatives (HoR) – on December 20 last year, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) witnessed a vertical split. Both the groups have been exchanging hot debates through mass gatherings and protest demonstrations.
