KATHMANDU: The district administration offices (DAOs) of the three districts in the Kathmandu Valley have decided to suspend all their regular services except emergency ones for a week in wake of the growing risk of COVID-19 infection.

A meeting of the chief district officers (CDOs) of the three districts — Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur — held on Sunday took a decision to this effect, according to Mukesh Kumar Keshari, Assistant CDO and information officer at the Bhaktapur DAO.

“New rules will come into force starting Monday,” said Kali Prasad Parajuli, CDO of Kathmandu. Parajuli also added that other government offices in the district are also directed to take necessary decisions on complete or partial suspension of service-delivery. “All other government offices in the Valley are also asked to provide services in shifts to avoid crowds and minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection,” he added.

The Valley, where Nepal’s federal capital lies, reported a total of 1,498 cases on Sunday alone. According to the health ministry, Kathmandu district confirmed 1,132 new cases while 270 patients were diagnosed with the disease in Lalitpur and 96 in Bhaktapur districts.
