KMC to provide Rs 20 million to Melamchi Municipality for rescue and relief efforts

by .KATHMANDU : Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced to provide Rs 20 million to Melamchi Municipality for the rescue and relief of those affected by the recent floods and landslides.
KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya made the announcement while addressing the first meeting of the municipal assembly in Kathmandu on Thursday. Shakya said that the decision was made as floods triggered by incessant rainfall have displaced a large number of people and caused loss of property worth billions of rupees.
KMC and Melamchi Municipality have established sister city relations. The KMC had earlier announced to provide Rs 15 million for the construction of Melamchi City Garden that will have a water fountain, a helipad, a tourist resting center and a sports center for children near Malamchi Bazar. A memorandum of understanding to this effect has already been reached between KMC and Melamchi Municipality.
The source of the ambititous drinking water project to supply drinking water in Kathmandu Valley lies in Melamchi Municipality in Sindhupalchowk.
