KATHMANDU : Speaker Devraj Ghimire has expected constitutional and parliamentary practices from all political parties and members in the parliament.

Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of ‘Parliament Day’ today, Speaker Ghimire viewed political parties as real drivers of constitutional and parliamentary practices. So, they could play a role for consensus and coordination to make parliament dynamic.

He wished that Parliament Day inspired all lawmakers, former lawmakers, parliament secretariat, civil servants and common people to work actively for protection and strengthening of parliamentary democracy.

Speaker Ghimire also extended tribute to those who lost lives in various democratic movements held in Nepal for the establishment and restoration of democracy. He recalled that their sacrifice resulted in the formation of parliament, a platform to represent and exercise people’s sovereign rights.

The Parliament Day is observed in Nepal on Asar 16 every year in commemoration of the historic day, Asar 16, 2016BS, the first day of parliament convening in Nepal.
