POKHARA: President of the main opposition Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has stated that the 11-point agreement reached between the government and Alliance for Independent Madhesh (AIM) Coordinator CK Raut comprised some points that were anti-democratic and anti-national.

Talking to mediapersons at a press meet organised by Press Union, Kaski Chapter, in Pokhara on Tuesday, NC President said, “The agreement reached by the government with CK Raut is seen to support a cessationist; such agreement posses a risk to the nation’s unity.”

Deuba stated that some points within the agreement were questionable and some words had a double meaning. He also pointed out that the term ‘Alliance for Independent Madhesh’ should not have been used in the agreement and that it had already led people to chant slogans of independent Madhesh in Janakpur.

He added, it was a positive step to bring CK Raut into mainstream politics, however, the government should have paid attention to the country’s constitution and democracy while framing the agreement.

Deuba was of the opinion that the government should have made the agreement keeping in mind the country’s integrity, geographical unity and sovereignty, and questioned the government’s will to maintain national unity.

He further claimed that government did not consult the opposition while drafting the agreement to bring CK Raut into mainstream politics of the country, adding that the agreement was reached inside the prison before releasing Raut.
